Friley Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa |
This is the uploaded scrapbook of Francis N. Duffey, recording his V-5 Naval training experiences at Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, Minnesota), Iowa State University (Ames), and at the University of Kansas (Lawrence), from 1945 to 1946. " Eighty brand new Naval V-5 trainees, with visions of props and wings, began their military life at a little college in southern Minnesota -- Gustavus Adolphus. There were no airplanes, and the books could be rough, but it was a good life."

On to Ames, Iowa
Following successfully completing his training at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, my dad, Francis N. Duffey, moved on to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He resided at Friley Hall, which, at that time was a men's dormitory. He must have been busier, because there are more pictures, but fewer captions or notations on the back of the pictures. If you see someone you recognize please contact me and I'll add the name to the picture. Dad had a huge picture of the dorm in the scrapbook, but it is too big to scan, and it is of poor quality, so we'll have to make do with a more recent picture.
